Hail damage on Metal Roof

Hail damage on metal roof

One of the questions we are often asked is, “I’ve got a metal roof. Can it really be damaged?”

The simple answer is yes!

Even though your roof is metal, when a hail stone strikes with sufficient force it damages the metal and reduces the effective life of your roof.

When a metal roof is struck by hail, more than a simple dent occurs. Often, the galvanized coating (called galvalum) on the roof is cracked which ultimately leads to corrosion, pitting and the eventual destruction of your roof.

Once that metal is exposed, it will inevitably reduce the effective life of your roof. Water collects in that dent eventually leading to rust.

You don’t know how long it will take for hail to cause problems to your roof. But the problems will come. Unfortunately, it can’t wait. Insurance companies are not likely to pay for a roof after 10 years.

Your roof has damage and that damage should be repaired. That is, after all, why you have insurance.
